Colorado men's basketball head coach Tad Boyle had one scholarship left for the 2024-2025 season, his program's first back in the Big 12.
He gave it to redshirt sophomore and now former walk-on guard/forward Harrison Carrington.
Boyle delivered the news to the team at practice, giving Carrington a chance to celebrate with his teammates. The video of the moment was posted on the team's official X account on Monday afternoon.
At 6-foot-7, 209 pounds, Carrington worked as a utility player for Boyle and the Buffs last season. He stepped up amid Colorado's ongoing injuries, playing in 14 games and averaging 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds. Carrington played a career-high 17 minutes in the black and gold's Pac-12 season opener against the Washington Huskies, helping in the first win of CU's season sweep of the Huskies.
“It all starts in practice,” Carrington said after getting his first minutes of the season against Pepperdine last season, “just working every day in practice, and going hard. Practice. If you do that, it’ll just translate to the game. So just been working hard in practice and staying ready.”
In Carrington's case, his practice paid off.
