In Week 3 of the Colorado Buffaloes season, wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Buffaloes win over the Colorado State Rams.
Against the Rams on Saturday, Hunter had one interception, one pass breakup and five total tackles.
While he had an outstanding game at cornerback, at wideout he recorded his fourth straight game of 100 receiving yards dating back to last season and had two receiving touchdowns.
According to ESPN, he is the first FBS player to record 100 yards, two receiving touchdowns and one defensive interception in a game since 1996.
Three games into the season, Hunter has recorded two total pass breakups and only allowed 81 yards at DB. On the other side of the ball, he has hauled in an outstanding 30 receptions for 342 yards with five touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), he has played 383 total snaps, with 202 on defense and 181 on offense.
Through the first three games of the season, Hunter has earned a PFF grade of 84.3 coverage grade at CB and an 82.5 offensive grade at WR. While PFF does not rank him as a wide receiver his offensive grade ranks fifth among all receivers in FBS.
While it is too soon to name Hunter a Heisman favorite, this new addition to his resume will help his chances.
The Buffs continue their season against the Baylor Bears on Saturday in Boulder at 6 p.m. MT (FOX).
