The No. 18-ranked Colorado Buffaloes extended their winning streak to five after a hard-fought win over the 0-5-3 Weber State Wildcats Sunday evening at Prentup Field. With the victory, the Buffaloes moved to 6-1.

The Buffaloes started the game off fast, as in the first ten minutes they had two opportunities to open the day's scoring.

In the 16th minute, sophomore forward Hope Leyba made a run up the right side of the field, cut into the box and ended up being fouled by Weber State’s Ashlyn Price.

Colorado had a golden opportunity to strike first. Graduate midfielder Laura Gouvin lined up to take the penalty kick and tried to slot it into the bottom left corner. But, she was denied by Weber State goalkeeper Hadley Harris after an amazing dive.

The Wildcats' first real chance didn't happen till the 28th minute, but forward Ali Swensen was denied by Colorado’s co-captain goalkeeper Jordan Nytes.

At the brink of halftime, graduate defender and co-captain Rachel Rosen took Colorado’s corner, and almost curved the ball in for an Olimpico goal. Instead, the ball hit the far post and bounced back into play where Colorado’s Lola Stanley headed the ball over the crossbar.

Despite all the opportunities, Colorado and Weber State were both scoreless heading into halftime.

For the first 15 minutes of the second half. Colorado co-captain Julliauna Hayward controlled the game. Hayward created two chances that were nearly turned into goals.

Finally, in the 57th minute, Hayward created a chance that ended up at the feet of Ava Priest. Priest was able to put the ball past the Weber State keeper, despite her being able to get a deflection on the ball. It was the sophomore’s second straight game with a goal, after her game-winner against Denver on Thursday night.

12 minutes later, Priest had another opportunity which she also put in the back of the net. Priest’s brace was taken away after it was determined that Priest was offside when she received the through ball.

The next couple of minutes were filled with amazing opportunities for Colorado as Weber State still struggled to create any offense. Claire Curran and Leyba both had good opportunities that failed to extend the Buffalo lead. Leyba’s ball was denied by a diving Harris.

In the 87th minute, Curran played a beauty of a through ball to Leyba, who received the ball outside of the box. Weber State’s keeper came out to clear the ball, but Leyba got to it first and blasted it towards goal. The ball ricocheted off of both players, but still somehow found a way into Weber State’s net to ice the game further.
