Multiple Colorado players injured in loss at Nebraska

In the Colorado Buffaloes’ (1-1) 28-10 loss to Nebraska (2-0) Saturday at Memorial Stadium, the black and gold sustained multiple key injuries, barring some vital players from playing the whole game.

In the first quarter, safety Shilo Sanders made two solo tackles but had to come out of the game with an apparent forearm injury. He was later seen on the sideline with his forearm wrapped up and in a sling. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders commented on the injury in his post-game press conference

“I don’t know the extent of the injury, but I know he did something to his forearm that put him out for the rest of the game,” Sanders said.

On Monday morning Sanders posted a picture on X with his son, Shilo Sanders, after he underwent surgery.

Sanders tweeted, "God is good! Can't wait to see you back ready to go. Love ya son!"

Similarly, defensive tackle Chidozie Nwankwo only made one solo tackle before he exited the game.

“I think it’s an AC joint… I think he is going to be alright. I think he is going to consequently play this upcoming week,” Sanders said.

Sanders added, “I think (Isaiah) Hardge did something with his foot, on one of the punts.”

Hardge, the freshman wide receiver turned defensive back, played on special teams in three games for Buffs last year along with a healthy amount of snaps at running back in Colorado’s Black and Gold game in the spring. He looks to get some reps on defense this season.

Late in the fourth quarter, Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders left the game with two minutes remaining on the clock. Coach Sanders addressed the reason for taking his quarterback out.

“Shedeur (Sanders) got dinged a bit on that… targeting,” Sanders said. “We just wanted to take care of him and get him out of there.”

The last player Buffs fans want to see hurt is Shedeur Sanders. Although he did not play his best game against Nebraska, Sanders has thrown for 689 yards and five touchdowns through two games this season. He is the lifeline of the Colorado offense with his ability to put up big numbers, and his health is crucial for the Buffaloes to have any success this season.

The Buffaloes have a week to rest and surely need it, as they hope to get healthy heading into Week 3. They travel to Fort Collins to take on the Colorado State Rams (1-1) in the Rocky Mountain Showdown this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT on CBS.
