BOULDER– The Colorado Buffaloes soccer team has added three new transfers to the roster in advance of the Spring program.
Michaela Rosenbaum from UCLA, Laura Gouvin from Boston College and Sami Fisher from Florida will all join the roster for the 2024 season, as the Buffaloes look to surpass their 2023 first-round exit in the NCAA playoffs.
The announcement was made by the team on January 24
Here's what head coach Danny Sanchez told the offical Colorado Buffaloes website:
"We are very excited to add these fantastic student-athletes to our roster for 2024," Sanchez said. "They each bring great experience and quality to our program."
Rosenbaum, a midfielder, hails from California and brings winning experience to the Buffs through her time with the 2022 Bruins, who took home the national championship.
Gouvin, another midfielder, has 67 collegiate soccer matches under her belt, starting 58 of those. Sanchez noted that she has an ability to not just play in the midfield, but also in the back, which makes her a highly versatile addition to the roster.
Fisher, a midfielder, did not appear in any matches in her sole season at Florida. She will essentially join the squad as a rookie, looking to take her first strides in the NCAA. She was heavily recruited by the Buffs following her successful high school career, and the coaching staff will now have a chance to develop the talent they saw only a few years ago.
The Buffs lost their brightest star by way of graduation, forward Shyra James, who led the team in points with 32, 22 more than the next highest on the roster. The new transfers will, hopefully for the black and gold, add major production to make up for the loss.
The team underperformed at times relative to their hot start and massive potential this past season. They started 8-1 prior to conference play before having a late-season five-match winless streak that put their playoff chances in limbo. However, a three-game win streak to close out the season was enough to seal the deal for a run in the playoffs, but it didn’t end the way the team would have hoped. Colorado lost in the first round of the playoffs last season to the Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 1-0.
Buffaloes fans should get their first look at the new overall team sometime this Spring; the dates of Spring games will be announced in the coming weeks.
