ICYMI: Buffs add three freshmen for the fall season

BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes announced on Wednesday that they have officially signed three incoming freshmen for the 2024 season.

Tatum Johnson, Katie Salonga, and Maria Splawska will finalize the black and gold freshman class, joining Gwen Schiff who was confirmed last November.

Johnson is a middle blocker from Laguna Beach, California, where she attended JSerra High School. She was a four-year varsity athlete, and in 2021 she broke the school record for the most blocks in a season.

She is currently playing for Wave Volleyball Club which is the same club that produced current student-athletes Cayla Payne and Lily Dwinell.

Salonga is a setter from Pleasanton, California. She will attend Colorado with the benefit of the CU Presidential Scholarship.

Solonga was a multi-sport athlete at Foothills High, she lettered in track and field and beach volleyball and was a four-year starter and a two-year captain for the volleyball team. She led the team to a 37-2 regular season record before losing in the state semi-finals in her senior year.

Splawska is a middle blocker from Stezcya, Poland. A product of the Polish National Team, she comes to Colorado with considerable high-level experience. She also joins current outside hitter Ana Burilović as the only international players on the roster.

"We are very excited about adding Maria, Katie, and Tatum to what is becoming a very talented 2024 class joining us this summer," head coach Jesse Mahoney told cubuffs.com. "All three are competitive and hard-working student-athletes but most importantly, they are great people who will thrive in our program and team culture here at Colorado.”
