In front of all 32 NFL teams, BJ Green II had himself a day at the CU NFL Showcase.

In a loaded lineup featuring 15 other Buffaloes, Green participated in on-field drills Friday at the Colorado Indoor Practice Facility (IPF). The university hosted scouts, media, family members, general managers and even an owner to see these prospects in action.

With most of the attention focused on the skill positions, the 6-foot-1-inch, 270-pound senior reminded everyone why the Buffaloes led the Big 12 in sacks (39) in 2024. Coming off a career-high 7.5-sack season where he received AP All-Big 12 First-Team Defensive Lineman honors, Green was ready to perform in front of an audience again.

At the Big 12 Pro Day in March, Green had a timed 40-yard dash of 4.70 seconds. He was able to improve his time drastically to an unofficial 4.59-second burst on Friday. As an edge, getting after the quarterback is a top priority. The speed and get-off from the line of scrimmage impressed those in attendance tremendously.

The explosion and freak athleticism of Green have shown up on film since his time at Arizona State where he spent three years before transferring. His vertical jump of 31.5 inches was also an improvement from his initial number of 30 inches. The three-cone and shuttle drills echoed what the tape had already revealed, Green can move laterally very well.

The bend and aggression were shown in his figure-eight drill performance as well. It simulates ducking and dodging an offensive lineman in order to bend the corner on a quarterback. This drill specifically highlighted Green’s ability to play low and be technical with his feet. The speed he went around made him appear like an NFL veteran. He was able to show a more polished rushing package and deep understanding of his position, too.

Green continued to dominate during individual time with scouts and in other on-field drills. Broncos head coach Sean Payton was one of the many faces who spent a considerable amount of time with Green on Friday, as it is clear Green’s name is one on the rise. The conversations with Green allowed scouts to see his character and motives to improve.

The presence of Green on the field was felt throughout the day. The smiling face shows a young man determined to make a roster. More importantly to him, Green feels positive about his performance and interactions from the showcase.

“I’m pretty proud of what I put out today. I thought I did great, I flew through the d-line drills, I improved my forty, which was my overall goal,” Green said. “Being an underrated guy, having people overlook me, some people don’t even know who I am. It’s a familiar burn, and it feels good. It makes you feel alive.”

As draft day approaches, Green is one of the many prospects hoping to hear their name called on stage. Regardless of the position he goes, Green has the athleticism and framework to develop into a sound defender in the future. After Friday’s showcase, Green has plenty of eyes on him and took advantage of his opportunity.
