BOULDER– The Colorado Buffaloes (14-11) fell short to the Oregon Ducks (21-4) in four sets on Sunday in Eugene, Oregon.

The Ducks came out hot and led early on in the first set. The Buffaloes had two net violations, which allowed Oregon to go up 10-3. Colorado head coach Jesse Mahoney then called a timeout, following two back to back aces by Oregon’s Libero, Kate Thibault.

Oregon then went on a 9-0 run to lead the Buffs, 21-6, before closing out the first set with half a dozen aces and a final of 25-7. The Ducks finished the first set with eleven kills and CU finished the set with six.

Colorado started the second set off with a nice rally to get their first lead of the match. This soon became a very back-and-forth matchup between the teams. The game was tied for most of the second half, with there being a one-point margin occasionally. Eventually, Oregon was able to pull away and go on a 3-0 run to lead the set, 21-17, before CU quickly came back to make the game 21-20.

Skyy Howard had a saving kill which then tied the game and allowed the Buffaloes to win the second set, 26-23, off of 16 kills and four aces.

Both CU and Oregon came out hungry in the third set and were neck and neck for nearly the entire set. The Ducks were able to slip away late in the third after a point was recalled. Oregon finished the set, 25-20, with 19 kills, and CU finished the set with 12 kills.

The Ducks finished the job in the fourth set, giving CU a hard time and limiting them to only nine points. The final in the fourth set was 25-9 with Oregon winning three of the four sets.

Oregon finished the evening with 62 kills and 12 aces, the team being led by Gabby Gonzales, who had 15 kills, and Hanah Pukis who had 17 digs. The Buffs finished with 41 kills and four aces, they were led by Maya Tabron (12 kills and 11 digs), and Kendall Meller (1.000 hitting average).

Colorado looks to improve their 6-4 Pac-12 record this Thursday at Arizona State, before taking on Arizona this Saturday in Phoenix.
