It was a very happy Thanksgiving for Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, as they secured four recruits in the class of 2025. With the addition of these recruits, 247 Sports now ranks CU as having the No. 32 class in the country this year.
The great night of recruiting began with four-star edge rusher London Merritt flipping his commitment from Ohio State to Colorado. Merritt, a product of IMG Academy, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 250 pounds. The star pass rusher brings great speed to the Buffs’ front seven, as he was a track sprinter in high school as well, where he posted a 12.48 in the 100-meter dash. All this led to 247 ranking him as the 13th-best edge rusher in the class and the 144th overall recruit in the class.
Merritt’s flipped commitment was quickly followed by another, being that of his teammate at IMG Academy; three-star defensive lineman Alexander McPherson. He had previously been committed to Oklahoma State and been on an official visit to North Carolina State. The pass rusher stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 240 pounds. 247 ranked him as the 113th defensive lineman and 1,023rd overall prospect in the class.
Colorado’s great night would then continue, landing three-star wide receiver Quentin Gibson. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Gibson attended North Crowley High School where he played primarily as a slot receiver and displayed serious big play potential. He stands 5-foot-8 weighing in at 165 pounds, but what he lacks in size he makes up for with lethal breakaway speed, being the reason why 247 Sports listed him as the 150th receiver in the class. With his commitment, he chose Colorado over the likes of Mississippi State, Kansas State and school rival Colorado State.
The Buffs capped off their evening with one more commitment flip, and this time it was four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith. Smith, an Alabama native, had originally committed to Auburn and USC, but after visiting CU earlier this month, ultimately decided to bring his talents to Boulder. Smith stands at a towering 6-foot-5 while weighing 293 pounds, with 247 listing him as the 24th-best offensive tackle in the class. Smith was also ranked nationally as the 224th-best recruit in the class of 2025 and the 15th-best prospect in the state of Alabama.
The Buffaloes continue to secure a bright future with this high-end class, as all of these commitments come just days after they secured four-star QB prospect Julian Lewis.
Buffs fans have a lot to look forward to despite losing stars like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL draft following this season, as this recruiting class and the ones to follow will have Colorado “Primed” for success.
