With the transfer portal in effect for most of December, players are now visiting schools such as Colorado. The Buffaloes had several visits the past week with more to come. The Buffs are expected to have four visiting players this week, which would impact this Colorado lineup.
This week, the Buffaloes’ first visit was former Northwest Missouri State tight end Zach Atkins. Atkins was considered one of the top tight ends in the transfer portal according to 247Sports. The incoming junior visited on Dec. 15 and 16, and on Tuesday he announced his commitment to play for Colorado next year. In his last two seasons, Atkins had 30 catches, 360 yards, and three touchdowns. Arkins is 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds. Considering his size and athletic ability, Atkins could be a very impactful player for the Colorado offense.
The next notable visit for the Buffaloes is Jacksonville State linebacker Reginald Hughes. Hughes is visiting from Dec. 16 to 18. Hughes had a fantastic season in 2024 with 82 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. With the Buffs needing to fill the spot of All-Big 12 linebacker Nikhal-Hill Green, who entered the transfer portal on Sunday, Hughes could fit the bill.
With Colorado Losing wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and potentially other WRs to the NFL draft or transfer portal, Colorado needs to fill out spots on the perimeter. The Buffaloes received visits from Eric Rivers and Kevin Concepcion this week.
Rivers, a receiver from Florida International, is scheduled to visit the Buffaloes from Dec. 21 to 22. The senior was first-team All-Conference USA in 2024 with 62 receptions for 1172 yards and 12 touchdowns. Rivers is considered one of the top receivers in the portal and could be an impact player for the Buffaloes to continue the trend of having a standout receiving core.
Kevin Concepcion is a North Carolina State pass-catcher and visited Boulder on Monday. His stats at NC State over the last two years are 124 catches for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns. Colorado is in a very tight battle with other schools like Alabama, Miami, and Texas A&M to snag the incoming junior. Concepcion would be another huge piece for the Buffaloes to continue a lethal and efficient offense.
The last visit for the Colorado Buffaloes this week is Washington State defensive back Ethan O’Conner. As a freshman this past season, O’Conner had 24 tackles, eight passes defensed, and four sacks. O’Conner could help make the run defensive more formidable and carry the trend of Colorado having a tough defense into 2025.
