The new Associated Press Top 25 poll is out, and with the losses of teams such as Vanderbilt and Navy in Week 9, the Colorado Buffaloes snuck into the No. 23 spot after their 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday.
The Buffs hold a 6-2 record (4-1 conference) after beating the Bearcats and are bowl eligible for the first time since 2020. Their only losses this year came against the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas State Wildcats.
Although the Buffs are ranked in the AP poll, they stayed out of the Coaches’ poll but were the highest vote-getter outside of the top 25 teams.
In 2023, the Buffs were Top 25-ranked early in the season after beating the prior National Championship runner-up, No. 17 Texas Christian University (TCU). After beating the Horned Frogs in Week 1. CU was ranked for the next three weeks with their highest ranking being No. 18. This Buffs ranking comes at Week 10 in the college football season.
This ranking is a stepping stone for the Buffaloes as they stay in the hunt for the Big 12 Conference championship. This is the second time being ranked for the Buffaloes in the two seasons of head coach Deion Sanders. In 2022, the Buffaloes went 1-11. This season has marked a pivotal turnaround for CU with four games remaining in their schedule.
The Buffs head into their second bye week bowl eligible and ranked No. 23, with their next opponent being the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Nov. 9 in Lubbock.
